  • 5 Ways to Build a Vintage Jewelry Collection

    June 20, 2016
    Selling Your Jewelry

There is something special about vintage jewelry. Everyone loves wearing a gorgeous necklace or large ring that is nothing like what everyone else wears. Unfortunately, it is impossible to go down to the chain jewelry store at the mall and add to your vintage collection. That’s why we’ve put together a guide to five ways that you can easily add to your vintage jewelry collection.

Mention Your Love for Jewelry to Friends and Family

The first, easiest and most affordable way to add vintage pieces to your collection is to let friends and family know that you are looking. You may find that someone close to you is looking to sell an older piece, or maybe you will even be gifted a piece! It never hurts to mention your love of any collectible; it can open doors!

    Visit Estate Sales

In any metropolitan area, there is likely to be an abundance of estate sales on the weekend. Check out the newspaper or shop online to find the sales. Some of these sales offer better deals than others, but you will have a great chance to look through some interesting and potentially valuable pieces. There is nothing better than hitting estate sales for a treasure hunt!

    Check Unique Jewelry Stores

While you might not have any luck with finding vintage jewelry at the chain jewelry stores, there are other options. Look for jewelry stores that specialize in vintage and estate pieces. This can be the best way to find a wide selection of jewelry in one convenient location.

Keep an Eye Out in Unexpected Places

Thrift stores, yard sales, Craigslist and even Facebook trade groups can be a good place to find older and unique pieces. If you are committed to building a vintage jewelry collection, you have to be willing to keep your eyes open each and every time you head out on the town.

Sell Your Unused Pieces to Buy New Items

Yes, building your jewelry collection can be pricey. However, you may be able to sell pieces that you don’t wear to buy those that you covet. Find a store that buys as well as sells to make the process as smooth and easy as possible.
